This painting began on a trip to Yellowstone, when I was accompanying my father on a trip to be a judge for a Yellowstone Plein Air Painting Competition back in the fall of 2019. It was one of those glorious fall days when everything feels crisp and exhilarating. I was thrilled to just be with my Dad and to be in a place that I’ve loved visiting since I was a child. The piece became a birthday commission piece from a friend for a dear friend, who had traveled through Yellowstone together. It was as much a thrill to paint as it was to stand there taking it all in!
